Jimmy Carter: A Life of Service

Early Life and Career

Jimmy Carter was born on October 1, 1924, in Plains, Georgia. He attended the United States Naval Academy and served in the Navy for seven years. After leaving the Navy, Carter returned to Georgia and became a peanut farmer. He entered politics in 1962, when he was elected to the Georgia State Senate. In 1970, Carter was elected governor of Georgia.

Presidency

In 1976, Carter was elected president of the United States. He served one term, from 1977 to 1981. During his presidency, Carter focused on human rights, energy, and the Middle East peace process. He also signed the Camp David Accords, which helped to bring peace between Israel and Egypt.

Post-Presidency

After leaving the White House, Carter founded The Carter Center, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting peace and human rights around the world. He has also written several books, including "Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid" and "A Call to Action." In 2002, Carter was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his work to promote peace and resolve international conflicts.
